Artist Statement

The pleaseures of enjoying art are exceeded only by the pleasures of creating it. Ever since someone picked-up a burnt stick and rubbed it against a cave wall, there has been fascination with painting. there is magic in a process using a mark, a line or color. You can feel the paintings when you enjoy the work.

My paintings are mixed media collaged. For years I have explored many forms of artistic materials, from paper making to clay, acrylic and oils painting on canvas. Nothing satisfies me more than expressing myself through a combination of materials. My paintings come to life during the process. Layering and scribing into the surface, a story is revealed about the past, the present and the future. Imagery comes to life that exposes some of my personal and subconscious interactions. Love and life is painting, and for the beholder, fascination of art is a journey to explore the love of art.

Working in clay was a natural extension of this process, adding the third dimension in my life. The figures in the clay expose themselves to me as the sculpture evolves and the mysterious beauty in the glazes comes to life with the fire.
